The right call for a single room (home office, bedroom, sunroom) where you do not need whole-home integration. Standard fabrics by Comfortex or Graber. 5-year motor warranty.
Tier 2: Lutron Serena or Hunter Douglas PowerView, $900 to $1,500
The mid-tier sweet spot. Lutron Serena (battery) or Hunter Douglas PowerView (battery) in a roller, cellular, or Roman shade. Integrates with Alexa, Google Home, HomeKit via the Lutron Caseta bridge or Hunter Douglas hub. The default spec for a 6 to 14 window package across a primary suite or living areas. Quieter motor than Tier 1, better fabric selection. 6 to 7 year motor warranty across Lutron and Hunter Douglas.
Tier 3: Lutron RA3 hardwired, $1,500 to $2,200
The integrated whole-home build. Lutron RA3 hardwired motors on every window, controlled through a single Lutron processor, integrated with lighting and HVAC. The default spec for new construction in Buckhead, Sandy Springs, and the high-end Alpharetta and Roswell builds. Near-silent operation, lifetime motor warranty, full astronomical time-clock scheduling. Requires low-voltage wiring during framing or a wire-pull during renovation.
Tier 4: Custom large-format, $2,200+
For glass walls, atrium spans, and openings beyond 96 inches wide. Alpha Tubular dual-motor systems, custom-engineered carriers, fabric joins for spans the standard roller cannot handle. Common on Old Fourth Ward loft conversions and West Midtown modern builds with floor-to-ceiling glazing. Project-specific pricing; we engineer the carrier system to the opening, not the other way around.

Motor brand and warranty
Somfy lives in the value tier; Lutron and Hunter Douglas in the premium tier. The Lutron premium runs 30 to 50 percent over Somfy for a comparable shade. The premium buys near-silent operation, longer motor life, and cleaner whole-home integration. For a single-room install with no smart-home plans, Somfy is the right call.
Battery versus hardwired
Battery installs add zero electrical labor; hardwired installs add $150 to $400 per window in low-voltage wiring labor. Hardwired is the only viable spec during new construction or open-wall renovation. For retrofit installs on existing finished walls, battery is almost always the answer.
Fabric and material
Solar screen fabrics (3 to 14 percent openness) sit at the value end. Blackout fabrics with side channels add $80 to $150 per window. Hunter Douglas Duette cellular (honeycomb) adds $100 to $250 over a comparable roller. Custom-printed fabrics, woven wood materials, and specialty light-filtering fabrics each carry their own premium.
Smart-home integration depth
Single-shade RF remote control is no incremental cost. App control via a bridge (Lutron Caseta bridge, Hunter Douglas hub, Somfy TaHoma) adds $200 to $400 system-level. Full whole-home integration with a Lutron RA3 processor or Control4 panel adds $1,200 to $3,500 system-level on top of the per-window cost.
Window size and complexity
Standard openings under 72 inches wide quote at the base price. Wider openings (72 to 96 inches) add 10 to 20 percent for the heavier-duty motor and bracket. Openings beyond 96 inches typically need dual-motor configurations or fabric joins, which is custom-engineering territory.
Programming and configuration
Scene programming, astronomical time-clock scheduling, and integration with Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit is included in our install for Lutron, Hunter Douglas, and Somfy systems. We walk through the app setup before we leave. No "configuration fee" hidden in the quote.
