About Hunter Douglas

The American manufacturer that sets the premium tier.

Hunter Douglas is the largest window treatment manufacturer in North America, founded in 1946 and headquartered in Pearl River, New York, with manufacturing across multiple US plants. The brand owns several category-defining product lines: Duette cellular (honeycomb) shades, Palm Beach Polysatin shutters, Silhouette window shadings, Pirouette window shadings, and Heritance plantation shutters. Each of those is the reference product in its category, frequently copied by competitors and rarely matched.

We have been an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer in Greater Atlanta since 1996. That relationship means direct factory pricing, priority manufacturing slots during peak season, lifetime workmanship warranty layered onto the Hunter Douglas product warranty, and access to the PowerView motorization system that runs on the manufacturer's own automation platform. Hunter Douglas products sit at the premium tier on most categories; we spec them when the specific product outperforms the alternatives, not as a default upsell.

This page covers the Hunter Douglas product lines we install most often in Georgia, the warranty terms in plain language, and the rooms where Hunter Douglas is genuinely worth the premium versus where Norman or Graber might be the better economic call. For pricing context, see our plantation shutters cost guide and motorized shades cost guide.

Warranty terms, in plain language

What the Hunter Douglas warranty actually covers.

Lifetime on hard product lines

Palm Beach Polysatin shutters, Heritance hardwood shutters, NewStyle composite shutters, Duette cellular shades, and most cordless mechanisms carry a lifetime limited warranty against material defects, finish, and fade. Lifetime means the lifetime of the original purchaser at the original install address. Non-prorated for the first 25 years.

Fabric and finish warranties

Fabrics on roller, Roman, Silhouette, Pirouette, and Vignette shades carry 3 to 7 year warranties depending on fabric line, covering fade, color migration, and fiber failure. The Heritance hardwood stain warranty is 25 years against fade. Painted finishes on hardwood shutters: lifetime against peel, 25 years against yellowing.

Motorization and electronics

PowerView motors carry a 7-year warranty. Pebble Smart Hub, remotes, and other electronics carry a 5-year warranty. Battery packs and rechargeable wand batteries carry a 2-year warranty. We register every motorized install with Hunter Douglas at the time of completion so the warranty starts on the install date, not the manufacture date.

Our workmanship warranty

On top of the Hunter Douglas product warranty, we add our own lifetime workmanship warranty on every install. That means if a bracket pulls out of plaster in year 11 because the original anchor was short, we come fix it. If a louver bank goes out of square because the trim moved, we adjust it. The warranty is for the life of the original purchaser at the original install address.

Where Hunter Douglas earns the premium

When to spec Hunter Douglas specifically.

Palm Beach Polysatin in any wet room

The Palm Beach line is the reference product for moisture-proof plantation shutters. Lifetime warranty on the panel and finish in any humidity. We spec it as the default in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and any opening with daily moisture exposure. Competitors exist; none have the same warranty plus track record.

Duette cellular for Atlanta west-facing windows

The triple-cell Duette delivers R-7.1 insulation, materially reducing summer heat gain on west and southwest elevations. Atlanta cooling bills on a 3,000 sqft home routinely drop $300 to $500 annually after a whole-house Duette install on the sun-facing windows. The product cost typically recovers in 6 to 10 years through utility savings.

Heritance for high-architectural-detail rooms

For the rooms where the shutter is the design feature (formal living, dining, primary bedroom in a higher-end build), Heritance hardwood shutters in a custom stain match are the reference product. The grain consistency, the joinery, and the finish hand are all materially better than the value-tier alternatives.

PowerView for integrated smart-home builds

If the home already runs Control4 or has heavy Apple HomeKit integration, PowerView is the cleanest integration. For Lutron-centric homes, Lutron Serena or RA3 is the better integration. We will tell you which platform fits your house better, not push PowerView as a universal default.

Questions homeowners ask about Hunter Douglas

The honest answers.

Is Hunter Douglas worth the premium over other window treatment brands?

For specific product categories, yes. Hunter Douglas Duette cellular shades and Palm Beach Polysatin shutters are best-in-class for energy efficiency and moisture resistance respectively. For other categories (basic roller shades, faux wood blinds), Graber or Norman frequently deliver comparable quality at lower cost. We spec Hunter Douglas when the specific product line outperforms the alternatives, not as a default.

What is the Hunter Douglas warranty?

Hunter Douglas offers a lifetime warranty on most of its hard product categories (Palm Beach Polysatin shutters, Duette cellular shades, NewStyle composite shutters) covering material defects, finish, and fade. Fabric warranties typically run 3 to 7 years against color and fiber wear. Motorized systems (PowerView) carry a 7-year warranty on the motor. We layer our own lifetime workmanship warranty on every install.

Can Hunter Douglas products be motorized?

Yes. Most Hunter Douglas product lines integrate with PowerView, their proprietary motorization system. PowerView Automation works with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and Control4. The motor warranty is 7 years and battery life on PowerView Gen 3 systems runs roughly 9 to 18 months between charges depending on operations per day. See our motorized shades cost guide for the per-window pricing.

What is the lead time for Hunter Douglas products in Georgia?

Standard Hunter Douglas lead time in Greater Atlanta is 4 to 6 weeks from order to install. PowerView motorized systems sometimes run 6 to 8 weeks because of the additional hardware coordination. Custom-stained Heritance shutters and shaped (arched, palladium) panels can push to 8 to 10 weeks. We confirm the lead time on the consultation, not by marketing fluff.
