The project
Sunset Hills, Carrollton.
A Sunset Hills 1920s bungalow with original deep-set window casings. The previous owner had taped up 1990s vinyl mini-blinds; the new owners wanted something that respected the bungalow's craftsman bones. We measured the deep-set openings, specified 2.5 inch basswood blinds in a warm stain for the main windows, and added bamboo woven Romans on the front bay so the curb appeal would read as soft and natural rather than flat slats.

Sized for the deep-set 1920s casings; warm stain to match the existing original woodwork.
Bamboo woven Romans, top-down bottom-up
On the front bay where curb-appeal privacy matters. The top-down option lets the homeowner block the streetside view without losing the upper window's afternoon light.
All cordless lifts
Required because of the homeowners' young children. Both products specified in cordless options to meet the safety standard.
The decision behind it
Two products in one room, on purpose.
Deep-set craftsman casings are a gift. There is room to mount inside the opening, so the blind sits back in the shadow line and the original trim keeps doing its job. That is most of why we put a 2.5 inch basswood slat in a warm stain on the main windows and left the bay out of it.
The bay got bamboo woven Romans because the front of a bungalow is seen from the street. Reeds read soft from the sidewalk where a hard slat reads commercial, and top-down bottom-up hands the owners light at the ceiling and privacy at eye level at the same time. Slat sizes are on our blinds page, the natural materials under woven wood shades, and we are in Carrollton most weeks of the year.
