The project
Between the Rivers, Rome.
A Between the Rivers ranch with a deep-set bedroom window facing the side yard. The previous treatment was a pinch-pleat fabric drape that did not allow daytime privacy without going fully drawn. We specified fabric vertical blinds with a valance trimmed for the deep sill, giving daytime privacy with a quick tilt and full closure when needed.
What we installed
Three details that made the install.
Fabric vertical blinds
Pleated fabric in a soft off-white; reads softer than vinyl and tilts for adjustable daytime privacy.
Sill-trimmed valance
Valance custom-trimmed to fit the deep window sill without crowding the casing.
Wand control
Quiet operation; no chain to pull or cord to manage during nighttime use.
The decision behind it
A deep sill changes the whole bracket plan.
A deep-set opening hands you a choice most windows do not: mount inside the reveal and let the wall frame the treatment. We took it, and trimmed the valance to the depth of the sill so there is no shadow gap left between the valance return and the plaster.
Verticals were right because the owners wanted daytime privacy with one movement of the wrist rather than a drape to draw and undraw twice a day. A wand instead of a cord keeps it that simple and keeps a loose cord out of a bedroom. The vane materials are on our vertical blinds page, and we cover window treatments in Rome, GA and the rest of Floyd County.
