The project
A nursery that had to go dark at noon.
A Kedron golf-cart-path home with a nursery-converted master bedroom. The parents wanted blackout for nap-time light control but wanted the texture and softness of fabric rather than a hard roller. We specified soft-fold Roman shades in linen, lined with a separate cordless cellular for true blackout when needed.
What we installed

Soft-fold linen Romans
Natural linen weave that softens the room without going visually busy; soft-fold pattern hangs cleanly when fully raised.
Cordless cellular blackout liner
Separate layer behind the linen; pulls up independently and provides true nap-time blackout.
Cordless lift mechanism
Required for the nursery; eliminates the cord safety risk while preserving smooth dual-layer operation.
The decision behind it
Two layers, because fabric on its own does not black out.
Linen will not darken a room for a nap, whatever the lining is called. So this window carries the soft-fold Roman the parents wanted for texture, with a separate cordless cellular behind it doing the actual blackout work. Pull one for softness, pull both for darkness.
Cordless on both layers was not optional with a toddler in the room. These Romans hold their shape because the folds are sewn rather than gathered, so the shade still looks deliberate when it is halfway up, which is where most shades spend their life.
