The project
Druid Hills, Atlanta.
A Druid Hills Tudor great room with nine windows on a south-facing two-story wall. The previous owner had run a patchwork of mini-blinds and pinch-pleat drapes that did not match between the upper and lower openings. We replaced the lot with basswood plantation shutters in 4.5 inch louvers across all nine openings. The hidden tilt rod across the entire wall reads as a single horizontal line of louver tips, which matters on a two-story wall where any unevenness telegraphs.

Nine basswood shutter panels
Templated to each opening's actual dimensions, accounting for the slight non-square typical of 1920s Tudor framing.
4.5 inch louvers, hidden tilt rod
The wider louver suits the room's scale; the hidden tilt rod keeps the long sightline uninterrupted across the two-story wall.
Ivory stain, satin finish
Matched to the existing white trim; the satin finish hides the morning dust the south-facing wall collects.
